Microsoft Office software contains a powerful programming language – referred to as VBA (Visual Basic for Applications) and this can be used to develop automated ‘procedures’ that run within the application.
These are referred to as macros.
For example – in Microsoft Excel a macro can be written to import data from an external data system such as SAP, automatically reformat that data, and then create pre-defined reports – all with the simple click of a few buttons on the worksheet.
These macros reduce hours of manual work into an automated and accurate procedure.
How long does it take to write a macro?
That all depends on the complexity of the task and what information and design is available.
